Evaluation of teaching staff by students

In accordance with  The methodology regarding the implementation of the teaching staff evaluation process by students at the West University of Timișoara (UVT), first stage of evaluation of teaching staff by students will be carried out in the middle of each semester, targeting the teaching activity carried out in the first half of the semester. The results will be made available to the teaching staff immediately after the end of the evaluation period, in the form of a general report containing the average of the grades obtained for each question following the students' evaluations and the answers to the open questions, without mentioning their authors. The teaching staff will analyze the results of the evaluation process and will implement, as of the current semester, if necessary, those improvements necessary in the teaching process, taking into account the feedback sent by the students.

Second stage of evaluation will be carried out in the last two weeks of teaching activities of each semester (weeks 13-14), targeting the teaching activity carried out throughout the semester, and the results will be made available to the teaching staff after the end of the regulatory deadline for completing the grades in the electronic catalog for session B of the respective semester. At this stage, student feedback will also track how the teaching staff improved their activity during the semester and how they integrated the recommendations received in the first evaluation stage.

The purpose of the evaluation of the teaching staff by the students is to collect their opinions and feedback regarding the educational process they went through this semester, in order to improve the activity of the teaching staff and the educational services offered by the West University of Timișoara.

The evaluation of teaching staff by students is carried out through the platform evaluation.uvt.ro, which students log in with their institutional account details @e-uvt.ro

Even if on the platform the students log in with the e-mail address and password of the institutional account, the evaluation of teachers by students is 100% anonymous, the answers being encrypted in such a way that the authors cannot be identified.

Steps to use the platform are available in THIS GUIDE.

Currently, in the first evaluation stage, for each teaching activity (course, seminar, laboratory) students will complete a single teacher evaluation questionnaire, which contains: 3 open questions where they can detail their impressions – two mandatory (strong points and weaknesses about the teaching activity) and an optional one (any other comments), 10 optional questions, with a scale from 1 to 10, for ten statements about teaching activity, and at the end of the questionnaire there is two items in which students will have to mention the percentage of participation in the evaluated teaching activities and self-assess their degree of involvement throughout the semester.

In second stage of evaluation, for each teaching activity (course, seminar, laboratory) students will complete a single teacher evaluation questionnaire, which contains: 7 mandatory items, on a scale from 1 to 10, for seven statements about teaching activity, 3 open questions where they can detail their impressions – two mandatory (strong points and weaknesses about the teaching activity) and an optional one (any other comments), and at the end of the questionnaire there is two items in which students will have to mention the percentage of participation in the evaluated teaching activities and self-assess their degree of involvement throughout the semester.

In the case of the questionnaire applied at the end of each semester, in the second evaluation stage, item number 8 is addressed only to those students who responded to the evaluation questionnaire for the respective discipline and in stage I of the evaluation process, halfway through this semester, through which we want to find out whether the feedback sent by the students had an impact on the teaching activity carried out by the teacher in the second part of the semester.

Each evaluation questionnaire for a didactic activity can be completed separately.

A frequently asked questions document about the teacher evaluation process is available HERE.

If students encounter difficulties in the assessment process or identify errors in the form, they can send this via email to edu@e-uvt.ro, accompanied by screenshots with any errors.

Analysis of the process of evaluating teaching staff by students

In order to provide an integrated and coherent perspective on the evolution of teacher evaluation tools by students, highlighting the changes that have occurred over the past few years and their impact on the quality of the educational process, a study was conducted analysis of the evaluation process of teaching staff by students at the West University of Timișoara, during the period 2021-2025. By correlating existing data and the results obtained in different stages of the evaluation process, the approach aims to clarify the reasons that underpinned the transformations of the evaluation process and to substantiate future development directions at the institutional level. In this sense, the analysis highlights both the progress made and the difficulties encountered in the evaluation process, while also providing the necessary arguments for optimizing the process in accordance with the needs of students and teachers. The document can be consulted HERE.

UVT students' perception of the teaching staff evaluation process

Students' perception of the teacher evaluation process was analyzed in academic year 2024-2025 through an online questionnaire, between March 28 and April 17, 2025, using the Google Forms platform. The questionnaire included 20 closed-ended items regarding the importance, usefulness, and conduct of the evaluation process, as well as additional items regarding completion behavior, perception of the new structure of the three-stage teacher evaluation process, and the promotion campaign conducted at the institutional level. In addition, open-ended questions were included to identify students' motivations, difficulties encountered, and their suggestions for improving the teacher evaluation process.

The report on the perception of UVT students on the student evaluation process of teaching staff carried out in the 2024-2025 academic year can be consulted HERE.
