The Western University of Timișoara (UVT) grants various types of scholarships to its students enrolled in undergraduate and master's degree programs, both to reward outstanding academic performance and as a form of social support.

Types of scholarships awarded by UVT are the following:

a) scholarships for Olympic I/international excellence;

  • first prize – 3300 lei/month;
  • second prize – 2475 lei/month
  • third prize – 1650 lei/month.

b) performance scholarships (1200 lei/month);

c) social scholarships (1000 lei / month);

d) occasional social scholarships (1000 lei);

e) special scholarships (800 lei / month);

f) sports performance scholarships:

  • 1st place at the world university championships/games – 3000 lei;
  • 2st place at the world university championships/games – 2500 lei;
  • 3st place at the world university championships/games – 2000 lei;
  • 1st place at the European university championships/games - 2000 lei;
  • 2st place at the European university championships/games - 1500 lei;
  • 3st place at the European university championships/games - 1000 lei;
  • 1st place at the national university championships – 1000 lei;
  • 2st place at the national university championships – 750 lei;
  • 3rd place at the national university championships – 500 lei.

g) Start UVT scholarship (600 lei/month);

h) the UVT study grant;

i) UVT scholarship for citizens of EU third countries (350 lei/month);

j) UVT scholarship for citizens with refugee/political asylum/subsidiary protection status (1000 lei/month);

k) additional scholarship for Romanians everywhere;

i) other scholarships from extrabudgetary own revenues.

General criteria for awarding scholarships

Performance scholarships can be awarded to students enrolled in full-time university study programs, regardless of the form of funding, who fall into at least one of the following cases:
a) they obtained excellent results in education, respectively they have the highest averages in the same year of study of a study program;
b) have achieved scientific achievements, innovation and patents;
c) have obtained an average of at least 8,00 and are enrolled in university study programs in the fields of: Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, respectively, have obtained an average of at least 8,50 and are enrolled in programs of university studies in other fields.

For the first semester, the average taken into account when awarding the performance scholarship is the one obtained after all exam sessions in the previous academic year. In the case of first-year students, the admission average is taken into account.

For the II semester, the average taken into account when awarding the performance scholarship is the one obtained after all exam sessions in the I semester.

The social scholarship is granted for the duration of the entire academic year.

The following are eligible to obtain a social scholarship:

a) students orphaned by one or both parents, students from single-parent families or students from placement centers and who do not earn income above the ceiling for granting the social scholarship;

b) students with tuberculosis, who are in the records of medical units, during the period of tuberculostatic treatment, insulin-requiring diabetes, malignant diseases, severe malabsorption syndromes, chronic kidney disease on dialysis, moderate or severe persistent bronchial asthma, grand mal epilepsy, heart diseases congenital, chronic hepatitis with advanced fibrosis (stage F3 or F4), glaucoma, severe myopia, autoimmune immunological diseases in severe forms, rare diseases, autism spectrum disorders, severe hematological diseases requiring continuous treatment or frequent hospitalizations, bilateral deafness, cystic fibrosis, those infected with the HIV virus or AIDS patients, those with locomotor disabilities and in a degree of
disability, without taking into account the level of average income per family member;

c) students whose family did not achieve in the 12 months before the beginning of the semester / academic year an average net monthly income per family member higher than the minimum net basic salary in the economy.

The age limit to benefit from the social grant is 35 years.

For the awarding of social scholarships, the only academic criterion taken into account is that of passability.

Beneficiaries of social scholarships are established by applying, in order, the mentioned eligibility criteria.

The files for social scholarships they are taken through the online platform https://burse.uvt.ro – social grants section. Students access this platform through the institutional email address (@ e-uvt.ro).

Students may occasionally benefit, upon request, on the basis of supporting documents, from the following types of social scholarships, regardless of whether the student benefits from another category of scholarship:

  • casual social assistance grant for clothing and footwear;
  • scholarship for occasional maternity social assistance;
  • scholarship for occasional social assistance in case of death.

Special scholarships are awarded to students who fall into at least one of the following cases, with the simultaneous observance of the criterion regarding passability:

a) have achieved special cultural-artistic performances or for involvement in extracurricular and volunteer activities;
b) are registered at the University Sports Club of the West University of Timișoara.

At the beginning of each academic year, the UVT Start Scholarship is awarded from own extra-budgetary income to first-year students who have received a letter of invitation from the university for admission and have been declared head of promotion upon completion of high school, have obtained an average of 10 in the baccalaureate exam or have obtained distinctions (XNUMXst, XNUMXnd, XNUMXrd awards, mention) at the Olympics and/or other national or international competitions recognized by the Ministry of Education during their high school studies.

The condition of keeping the UVT Start Scholarship for the entire period of the academic year is that the student has full-time student status after the end of the first semester. Otherwise, the student will no longer benefit from this scholarship in the second semester.

Students who have obtained the UVT Start Scholarship can also benefit from any other type of scholarship.

The UVT study grant can be awarded, in order to support access to education, to fee-paying undergraduate and master's degree students.

The UVT study grant can be:

  1. Full, equal in value to the tuition fee for one academic year,
  2. Partial, equal in value to 50% of the tuition fee related to an academic year;

The UVT study grant is awarded only once in an academic year and is compensated on the date of award, in whole or in part, as the case may be, with the study fee owed by the recipient of the scholarship.

In order to ensure an international and multicultural academic climate, but especially to support the inclusion of citizens from EU third countries in the educational system in Romania, UVT annually organizes an admission competition to obtain the status of "UVT scholarship", addressed to citizens from EU third countries with reduced economic development, i.e. candidates with a demonstrable disadvantaged socio-economic situation, having the following benefits: exemption from paying the tuition fee and/or exemption from paying the accommodation fee in the UVT dormitories and/or receiving a scholarship/financial aid from the funds the university's own.

The maximum number of scholarships that can be awarded annually by UVT for this category of citizens is 30, of which 10 are for the doctoral study cycle.

Based on the Collaboration Protocol signed between UVT and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UVT can grant scholarships to citizens with refugee / political asylum / subsidiary protection status, within a pilot program to promote and support presence and inclusion refugees in the educational system in Romania.

At the beginning of each academic year, UNHCR can nominate up to a maximum of 3 potential candidates for "UVT Scholar" status with the following benefits: tuition fee waiver and/or UVT dormitory fee waiver and/or receiving a scholarship/a financial aid from the university's own funds (in an amount equal to a social scholarship).

The Department of International Relations submits to the central scholarship awarding committee the nominal list of proposals for potential scholarship recipients submitted by UNHCR by October 30 of each current calendar year, for the following academic year, in order to approve the status of "UVT scholarship holder" and related benefits. The decision of the central scholarship awarding committee is communicated to the Department of International Relations and the faculties where the students with "UVT scholarship" status are enrolled.

Within the budget approved by the Board of Directors, the Central Commission of
grant of scholarships can decide to grant an additional scholarship for Romanians everywhere, for academic results, with the fulfillment of the conditions provided for in art. 13, para. (1), lit. c).

By exception to the provisions of art. 2 para. (8), the amount of the additional scholarship for Romanians everywhere is established every six months by the Central Scholarship Awarding Commission, differentiated, by study cycle.

By exception to the provisions of art. 3, the additional scholarship for Romanians everywhere is granted for one semester.

 

The central scholarship awarding commission can decide to award other scholarships, within the limit
the budget approved by the Board of Directors, for various activities for the benefit of the university community, for special performances, likely to increase the visibility and prestige of the university and in other situations where this is considered appropriate.

General dispositions

Scholarships, regardless of category, are awarded for the entire duration of the academic year (12 months), with the exception of occasional scholarships and the performance scholarship, which are awarded for one semester. Granting of scholarships ceases on the date of loss of student status or failure to meet eligibility criteria, as the case may be. To students enrolled in the last year of study of bachelor's or master's study cycles who benefit from any type of scholarship in the last semester of the respective cycle they will be granted the same type of scholarship/scholarships until the time when the first sitting of the graduation exam is scheduled.

A student cannot receive two types of scholarships simultaneously from the same category, but he has the right to opt for the one with a higher value or which is granted for a longer period of time. Sstudents who benefit from a social scholarship can also receive any other type of scholarship.
