According to the Romanian Government Decision No. 535 of June 4, 2025 amending and supplementing the Methodological Norms regarding the granting of internal rail and metro transport facilities for students, approved by Government Decision No. 811/2023, students enrolled in higher education institutions in Romania, in university study programs at form of frequent education, regardless of nationality, aged up to 30 years ago, benefit of 90% off for domestic rail transport on all train categories, 2nd class, throughout the calendar year, on the distance/routes between the locality of residence and the locality where the higher education institution at which the student is enrolled is located.
Where the student lives in a town not served by a railway station, it benefits from 90% discount on the distance/routes between the railway station to which the student has access from the place of residence and the place where the higher education institution is located in which the student is enrolled.
If the distance between the place of residence/station to which the student has access from the place of residence and the place where the higher education institution where the student is enrolled is located you cannot travel with the means of transport of a single railway transport operator, the journey can be made in fractions with the means of transport of several railway and road transport operators, the discount being granted for the journey with each railway transport operator separately, over the respective distances.
For students enrolled in the 2025-2026 academic year in the first year of the bachelor's, master's or doctoral cycles of university studies, student ID cards for rail transport will be issued from the Student InfoCenter after receiving them from the Ministry of Education and Research, and we will return with an email informing you of the date on which these documents will be issued.
Until November 30, 2025, for first-year students of bachelor's, master's and doctoral university study cycles up to 30 years old, enrolled in university study programs in the full-time form of education, the discount on rail transport will also be granted based on a certificate attesting to student status issued by the higher education institution for the current academic year, which will temporarily replace the student ID card for rail transport, until it is issued. The certificate attesting to student status can be requested from InfoStudent Center, via TO THIS FORM.
Endorsement of student ID for rail transport (for all students, except those in the first year of studies)
Endorsement of student IDs for rail transport for the current academic year is done by presenting them at the student InfoCentre. These IDs are issued/intended only for students enrolled in a university study program at form of frequent education, aged up to 30 years ago.
Based on the student ID card for rail transport, all students enrolled in a full-time university study program, up to 30 years old, benefit from a 90% discount on rail transport, on all categories of trains and for all railway operators, on the distance/routes between the locality of residence and the locality where the higher education institution at which the student is enrolled is located.
You do not have to show up in person to have your IDs endorsed - they could be collected and brought to the InfoCentru for endorsement by your group/year representative.
Until November 30, 2025, students can benefit from the reduced fare for rail transport on the basis of their student ID card for reduced/free transport, valid for the previous academic year.
Students who were not issued rail transport tickets in previous academic years will be able to pick up their rail transport student tickets from the Student InfoCentre, after receiving them from the Ministry of Education and Research, and we will return with an email informing you of the date on which the transport tickets will be issued.
