Between August 26-30, 2024, the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology of the Western University of Timișoara had the pleasure of hosting the Summer School "La Vest de Est/La Est de Vest. A cultural hybridization", an event organized in partnership with the Faculty of Letters of the University of Bucharest.
Over the course of a week, master's and doctoral students of the Faculty of Letters from Bucharest were the UVT's guests of honor, participating in a series of activities that explored the cultural and historical richness of the Banat region. This initiative gave the participants a unique insight into the cultural diversity of the region.
The intensive program of the summer school included thematic workshops, meetings with writers, guided tours and visits to museums, as well as trips to the cities of Jimbolia, Lipova, Radna, Arad, Oravița and Socolari. Under the guidance of personalities such as Adriana Babeți, Pia Brînzeu, Mircea Mihăieș, Marcel Tolcea and Vasile Popovici, the participants tackled three major themes: "Cultural proximity. Ways of use", "Literary cartographies. Banat from books" and "United States of Literature?".
Every day of the summer school was marked by visits and meetings that revealed the cultural richness of Banat. The field trips gave the participants the opportunity to discover the cultural and historical treasures of the region, and the discussions and seminars deepened the connections between literature, history and geography, giving the Masters and PhD students a wider perspective on the cultural context in which they find themselves.
The event is part of the cultural program "Ei. They. We. Together" and was financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund (AFCN) and the Timiș County Council.
The event was co-financed by AFCN. It does not necessarily represent the position of the National Cultural Fund Administration. AFCN is not responsible for the content of the project or how its results may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the beneficiary of the funding.
