Started in 2022, the construction of the largest student dormitory in the country, an investment of the Government of Romania, carried out through the National Investment Fund, intended for students of the West University of Timișoara, has reached a stage of 90% completion of the investment. At this stage, the Government of Romania adopted, in yesterday's meeting, the Government Decision for the re-approval of the technical and economic indicators for this investment objective – "Construction of Student Dormitory - West University of Timișoara, str. Renașterii no. 24B, Timișoara municipality, Timiș county".
The normative act provides for the updating of the technical and economic indicators of the investment objective and the amount allocated to the project. The physical stage of the works on this investment objective is 90%, with the remaining works to be completed, namely the installation of equipment, including the access control system and the integrated wi-fi system, as well as the external redevelopment. It was decided to supplement the initially allocated amount with 139,2 million lei (resulting in a total investment value of 230,4 million lei), of which 136,5 from the budget of the Ministry of Development, through the National Investment Company "CNI" SA, the amount of 2,7 million lei being financed by the University of the West.
After the adoption of the normative act, the Minister of Development, Cseke Attila, stated: "We are building the largest and most modern dormitory in Romania, in Timisoara. The Ministry of Development is financing the construction of several student dormitories in other localities. We are investing in modern educational infrastructure!"
The rector of UVT, Prof. Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, stated: "The Romanian Government is investing in the new dormitory of the West University of Timisoara in Timisoara, a modern space for students that will considerably increase the accommodation capacity of our university. The investment is close to completion and will be equivalent to the opening of a new student campus in Timisoara, in the area of Renașterii Street. We are approaching the inauguration of the largest student dormitory in Romania, an important facility that will ensure living conditions and student life at European standards."
The developed area of the new building is 30.730 square meters, with a total capacity of 451 rooms for student accommodation, and the remaining duration of execution for this investment objective is two months. The construction of the new dormitory will increase the comfort and quality of life of students, resolve accommodation requests, provide spaces for foreign students, attract a larger number of students and improve the quality of accommodation services offered by UVT.
The Concelex company is the executor of this work, carried out according to a project developed by Concrete & Design Solutions. The proposed building will consist of five sections, the main bodies T1, T3 and T5 oriented longitudinally (NW-SE), and two transverse connecting bodies (T2 and T4), in the VE direction. The project includes reading rooms, dining areas, underground and above-ground parking spaces, a running track and designated bicycle areas.
