The West University of Timișoara, in collaboration with the Timișoara Public Transport Company (STPT), is launching a new project to promote culture among the Timișoara community. The initiative, called "The cultural tram", transforms one of the city's trams into a mobile exhibition space, accessible to Timișoara residents and visitors.
With the help of students from the Faculty of Art and Design of UVT, the tram was transformed into an urban gallery. The tram lined with works of art made by them will run daily on the route Gara de Nord - Piața Gheorghe Domoșneanu (AEM), via Dâmbovița. The goal is to provide an aesthetic experience in the midst of everyday activity, highlighting the creativity of young artists and bringing art closer to the community.
UVT, involved in the cultural life of the community
This project underlines UVT's commitment to contribute to the cultural life of Timișoara and to create opportunities for the city's residents to come into contact with contemporary art. In addition, in seven stations in the city (Parcul Poporului direction Traian, Continental direction Prefecture, Poșta Centrală direction Piața 700, Piața 700 direction Libertății, Prefecture direction 700, L. Rebreanu direction AEM, Liviu Rebreanu direction Dâmbovița, Calea Bogdăneștilor with Mendeleev direction Square 700) exhibition panels were placed where artworks by the students of the UVT Faculty of Art and Design are presented, thus completing the experience offered by the cultural tram.
Cultural surprises for travelers
In the coming months, travelers will have the opportunity to discover new elements of urban art, along with other cultural surprises. This collaboration is the second of its kind, after the well-known campaign "Timișoara (re)reads", previously held by UVT and STPT, which brought to the fore the promotion of reading in public transport.
The first cultural activity in the project The cultural tram debuted with a series of cultural mediation workshops, organized under the guidance of Gabriela Robeci, research assistant at the Faculty of Arts and Design of the Western University of Timișoara. These sessions aimed to bring the public closer to various forms of artistic expression and facilitate a direct interaction with the works.
The project is part of the national cultural program "Timișoara - European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is financed by the Timișoara.Next program, run by the Timiș County Culture and Art Center, with amounts allocated from the state budget, through the Ministry's budget Cultures.
The project is co-financed by AFCN. The project does not necessarily represent the position of the National Cultural Fund Administration. AFCN is not responsible for the content of the project or how the results of the project may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the beneficiary of the funding.
