UVT represents Timișoara in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026

The 2026 edition of the prestigious international QS World University Rankings by Subject reconfirms the status of the West University of Timisoara as a relevant academic actor on the global stage, highlighting its performance in the field of Economics and Econometrics. UVT is positioned in the range of 551–700 worldwide, out of a total of 1963 universities evaluated — a ranking that reflects consistency, quality and a continuously growing international visibility.

This ranking places the university in the top third globally in the analyzed field and ranks it third in Romania, alongside the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași. The result solidly confirms the competitiveness of research and the relevance of academic programs in the economic area, in an increasingly demanding educational context.

At the regional level, the performance takes on additional significance: UVT is the only university from Timișoara present in this edition of the ranking, consolidating its role as the main academic and research hub of the west of the country.

The QS Rankings by Subject evaluate universities based on rigorous indicators such as academic reputation, employer perception, research impact, citations and the Hirsch index (H-index). In this framework, UVT's ranking reflects not only academic performance, but also the international recognition of its scientific contributions.

The result obtained in 2026 marks an important milestone in consolidating the university's academic profile and highlights its active role in the development of economic research and education, in a competitive global ecosystem. UVT thus reaffirms its position as a dynamic, internationally connected and excellence-oriented university.

The rector of UVT, professor Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, states: "For me, this achievement also has a special personal significance: the joy is all the greater as I have an academic background in the field of economic sciences and I directly understand the effort and value of the work of my colleagues, through which I obtained this new international classification in the field of Economics and Econometrics. It is, in essence, the result of a solid academic community, which performs in a competitive global environment and demonstrates that Romanian universities can count internationally."

The performance is all the more remarkable as the QS methodology uses extensive indicators, not adjusted for the size of the academic body, which highlights UVT's ability to generate scientific impact and visibility at a competitive level, despite the differences in scale compared to much larger institutions.

Moreover, this positioning is not accidental, but the result of the consistent implementation of a coherent research strategy, focused on publishing in high-impact journals, developing solid international academic partnerships, attracting competitive funding through national and international projects, and supporting academic mobilities — directions that contribute decisively to increasing the university's global visibility and relevance.
