UVT – recognized for its commitment to interdisciplinarity in the first ranking of THE Interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR) 2025

Times Higher Education (THE) launches the first edition of Interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR), in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows. The ranking highlights universities' contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science, which integrates knowledge from multiple academic disciplines to address global challenges.

In this first edition of the Interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR), West University of Timișoara (UVT) stands out among the eight most important institutions in Romania, occupying the fourth position at national level (equally with other universities in the country), being placed in the range of 601+ worldwide, in a ranking that includes 749 universities from 92 countries.

Interdisciplinary Science Ranking, published by the British magazine Times Higher Education, represents the first approach dedicated to evaluating the contributions of universities in the field of interdisciplinary science. The ranking is based on 11 carefully calibrated performance indicators, structured in three essential areas that reflect the life cycle of research projects:

  • Inputs (19%) – research funding;
  • Process (16%) – measuring success, facilities, administrative support and promotion;
  • Outputs (65%) – publications, research quality and reputation.

UVT achieved the best results in the category process, reflecting its efforts in promoting interdisciplinary science and in the investments made to develop research infrastructure and facilities.
