The Western University of Timisoara is once again present at the top of a regional academic classification, dedicated to developing countries in Europe and Central Asia.
UVT is the best ranked, from western Romania, in the academic top QS University Ranking 2021, occupying the 6th place in the top of the 19 ranked Romanian universities and the 95th place in the top 400 best universities in Europe and Central Asia. In the 2021 edition, UVT is among the top 24% of universities listed in the QS EECA.
The first ten universities in Romania ranked in this top are:
- Babeș-Bolyai University
- The University of Bucharest
- Polytechnic University of Bucharest
- AI Cuza University
- Gheorghe Asachi Technical University
- West University of Timişoara
- Technical University of Cluj Napoca
- Polytechnic University of Timișoara
- Lower Danube University from Galati
- Stefan cel Mare University in Suceava
In order to achieve the ranking for the year 2021, more than 102.500 responses from members of the international academic community were analyzed regarding the best higher education institutions in the research area and more than 52.000 responses from employers in the world regarding those better university graduates. To obtain this information, the two annual QS studies were used: Global Academic Survey and Global Employer Survey. Also, the results obtained by institutions through scientific research activity (2014-2018 period for publications and 2014-2019 period for citations) were evaluated using bibliometric data from Scopus. Only the institutions that generated more than 150 scientific papers in the last five years were evaluated.
Along with the Western University of Timisoara, the universities of the University Consortium are also present in this regional classification: University of Bucharest, Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași and the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest.
