West University of Timişoara (UVT) is taking part this week in the 19th edition of the annual conference and exhibition "APAIE- Asia-Pacific Association for International Education", which takes place in Hong Kong. UVT's participation takes place under the umbrella of "Study in Romania", being coordinated by the National Council of Rectors, bringing together 20 higher education institutions from Romania. This is the second presence of our university at this landmark event in the field of international relations in higher education, traveling in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2026, the APAIE conference and exhibition brings together more than 2500 representatives of higher education ecosystems from 65 countries around the world.
In this context, the West University of Timisoara marked the development of inter-institutional collaborations with other universities in the East and Southeast Asia region, specifically Hong Kong, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan and New Zealand, but also other states in the strategic region for the development of medium and long-term international cooperation at UVT, both in Education and Research.
Two contemporary trends under debate at the APAIE conference are in line with some of UVT's objectives in the field of international cooperation: the internationalization of curricula and the development of joint study programs, in international partnership, and the recruitment and integration of international students in a fragile geopolitical context.
Another topic of great interest to many partners is the Erasmus+ program, which has opened up a number of other possibilities for diversifying the offer regarding international mobility for students and teachers at UVT.
Also, the initiative to attract teaching and research staff from abroad to facilitate international cooperation, Visiting@UVT, was very well appreciated in the bilateral discussions facilitated by the presence at the event during this week.
In the coming period, the necessary steps will be taken to materialize the discussions in Hong Kong, so that the initiatives developed at the APAIE conference and exhibition materialize as quickly as possible into opportunities for internationalization, at home and abroad, available to the UVT community.
