We have the honor to invite you to participate in the launch event of the project implemented by the West University of Timișoara (UVT) under the title "Education for your Academic Future - EVA" (code 322431), a project carried out in partnership with the "Ștefan Odobleja" National Pedagogical College Drobeta Turnu Severin and the Cujmir Theoretical High School. The launch event will take place Wednesday, April 16, 2025, starting at 13: 00, in the A01 amphitheater (headquarters, V. Pârvan no. 4), with the participation of the project team.
The project represents an initiative aimed at supporting equal access to education for students from the South-West Oltenia Region and UVT students from disadvantaged backgrounds, taking place between February 2025 and January 2028. The project, funded by the Education and Employment Program (PEO), aims to promote equal access to higher education and facilitate the academic and professional success of students from the South-West Oltenia Region and UVT students from disadvantaged backgrounds and groups, by implementing an integrated system of educational support, vocational counseling and personalized support services, throughout the project period.
The duration of the project is 36 months, taking place between February 2025 and January 2028. The total value of the project is 7.941.413,27 lei, of which the non-reimbursable financing amounts to 7.782.585.99 lei, and the total own contribution (of UVT and partners) is 158.827,28 lei.
Specific objectives:
- 1. Ensuring preparation for the baccalaureate exam and familiarization with the university environment for 181 disadvantaged students from the SV Oltenia Region, through coaching programs, vocational counseling and visits to UVT, until the end of the project. OS1 associated with "bridge" measures aims to facilitate the transition to university studies of 181 disadvantaged students, reducing educational disparities and improving the chances of continuing their university studies.
- 2. Reducing university dropout by 90% among 200 disadvantaged students of the Western University through integrated counseling, academic support, and subsidies for accommodation and meals, by the end of the project.
- 3. Improving access to education for 110 disadvantaged or disabled students, through IT equipment and specific educational support, facilitating their full participation in academic activities, until the end of the project.
Target group:
- 181 students (ISCED 3-4) and high school graduates from the last two school years prior to the year of operation. At least 36 Roma students.
- 200 UVT students (ISCED 5-6, aged 18-29 at the start of the operation), residing in the selected counties.
- The selection for participation in the target group is based on the "first come, first served" criterion, respecting gender equality, opportunities and non-discrimination. Pupils and students must meet the following eligibility conditions:
- pupils/students who come from families with low parental educational level;
- pupils/students who meet the conditions for granting social scholarships;
- Roma pupils/students;
- high school graduates from the last two school years prior to the year in which they enter the operation, who did not pass the baccalaureate.
The main expected results of the project are:
- 1. Following the implementation of activities that provide for "bridge" measures to facilitate the transition to university studies starting with the 181th grade, 3 students, ISCED level 4-90, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds and groups, will be supported to facilitate the transition to higher education. Also, students from this group will benefit from subsidies to obtain a minimum standard of living that will facilitate learning and motivation for the baccalaureate and will be informed and vocationally advised. At the same time, students will experience student life at UVT, will participate in study visits, informative workshops, as well as an online motivational guidance program (run for XNUMX of them).
- 2. For a group of 200 selected students, following the implementation of activities that provide for the prevention and combating of university dropout among students from disadvantaged backgrounds and groups, the following results are estimated to be achieved: implementation of individualized study plans, granting subsidies, supporting expenses for accommodation and/or meals. Detailed programs will also be implemented to facilitate the insertion of students from disadvantaged groups by organizing workshops to develop students' study skills, through needs analyses of remedial courses conducted and reported, through remedial programs conducted and career plans carried out, but also through social action/volunteering projects and events.
- 3. Following the implementation of measures dedicated to the accessibility of the higher education institution, including through the acquisition of IT equipment and the development of specific tools for educational processes that include students with disabilities, including admission, it is estimated that the following results will be obtained: drafting a report analyzing the needs and resources of students with disabilities within UVT, a final report on the accessibility process of UVT from the perspective of students with disabilities. Also, digital accessibility to educational processes will be achieved for a group of 110 students, including students with disabilities, as well as providing support services/applications purchased in accordance with the needs analysis and accessibility strategy. Likewise, 20 laptops and 90 tablets purchased for students in the target group will be made available and ten counseling sessions with students with disabilities will be organized.
