UVT launches the project "Quality Higher Education: Endowment, modernization and rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the West University of Timișoara"

The West University of Timișoara, as beneficiary, announces the start of the project "Quality higher education: Endowment, modernization and rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the West University of Timișoara"(SMIS Code 2021: 327248), through which technical equipment, modernization of educational spaces, equipment of laboratories and amphitheaters in the spaces of several UVT faculties will be carried out, as well as modernization works of faculty buildings within UVT and, also, existing study programs in the educational offer of UVT will be developed and new master's programs will be generated.

The project has an implementation period of 24 months (starting from February 6, 2025) and is financed by the Regional Development Agency of the West Region as the Managing Authority for the West Regional Program 2021-2027. Representatives of the West Regional Development Agency and UVT signed on February 6, 2025 the financing contract for this project, included within the West Regional Program 2021-2027, Priority 6: An educated and attractive region, Specific Objective: RSO4.2 (Improving equal access to quality and inclusive services in education and lifelong learning through the development of accessible infrastructure, including by promoting resilience for distance and online education and training), Regional Intervention: 6.1.D (Investments in preschool, primary, secondary, vocational and higher education institutions - universities).

Project value:

The total value of the project is 25.134.431.78 lei, with a total eligible value of the project (including eligible VAT) of 22.151.980.00 lei, an eligible non-reimbursable value from the funds (ERDF/ESF+/CF/FTJ) of 16.423.477.97 lei, an eligible non-reimbursable value from the national budget of 5.285.462.43 lei, an eligible value of co-financing due to the beneficiary of 443.039.60 lei and a total ineligible value of the project (including ineligible VAT) of 2.982.451.78 lei.

General objective:

The general objective of the project aims to improve the academic quality and innovation capacity of the West University of Timisoara by developing the educational infrastructure within the eleven faculties, in line with technological progress and socio-economic dynamics. The main activities and results of the project will consist of equipment purchases and endowment of educational spaces, as well as the implementation of modernization and rehabilitation works, as well as the development of existing training programs and new programs.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • Specific objective 1:

Adopting and implementing cutting-edge technologies within the West University of Timisoara by equipping and equipping state-of-the-art learning spaces, the Aula Magna and five amphitheaters, to ensure a high level of academic training and research;

  • Specific objective 2:

Modernization and rehabilitation of the educational infrastructures of the West University of Timisoara through modernization works that are not subject to authorization;

  • Specific objective 3:

Increasing the quality and access to education by updating and diversifying study programs within the West University of Timisoara, including by introducing new master's specializations, in order to facilitate students' transition from education to employment.

Planned activities:

  • Making purchases (IT equipment, furniture and other equipment) for learning spaces within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, the Faculty of Arts and Design, the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology, the Faculty of Governance and Communication Sciences and the Faculty of Physics;
  • Equipping two laboratories in the field of mathematics and computer science, within the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, one laboratory within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, as well as equipping three auditoriums with IT equipment (A31, allocated to the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, A12, allocated to the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology and A13, allocated to the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science), equipping four other auditoriums with furniture and lighting fixtures, as well as five other auditoriums with air conditioning equipment;
  • Carrying out modernization works for the building of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEAA), namely the replacement of the carpentry and the modernization of the learning spaces, as well as the modernization and rehabilitation of a Journalism laboratory within the Faculty of Governance and Communication Sciences;
  • Developing existing training programs, by improving the content and adapting to market requirements (for the Virtual Reality Game Theory program, from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and the Cost Management program, from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration);
  • Initiating new master's programs, especially in the smart specialization areas of the West Region, in line with the dynamics of the labor market and the emergence of the digital and ecological transition (the Sustainable Finance master's program, within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Advertising Communication in Digital Media master's program, within the Faculty of Governance and Communication Sciences).

Target group who will benefit from the facilities of the laboratories, amphitheaters and the auditorium, as well as from the investment related to the project, is formed by the almost fifteen thousand students, from the eleven UVT faculties. The target group is also formed by the West University of Timisoara, as the owner of the infrastructures, with the faculties subject to the investments (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Faculty of Arts and Design, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Faculty of Sociology and Psychology, Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Governance and Communication Sciences, Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Faculty of Letters, History and Theology, Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Music and Theatre). Their main benefits are those related to a higher quality of the educational infrastructure, but also to the measures that will be implemented at the university curriculum level: at least two existing courses supported by improving the content and adapting to market requirements, as well as two new master's programs developed. The indirect beneficiaries are the teaching staff and the administrative and auxiliary staff who work within the faculties equipped, modernized and rehabilitated through the project (over one thousand two hundred teaching staff and people from the administrative and auxiliary body). Another category of indirect beneficiaries is represented by the future students who will benefit from the infrastructures equipped and modernized through the project and from the courses adapted to the needs and requirements of the labor market, as well as by the partners from the socio-economic environment of UVT who participate in joint training or research activities.
