The West University of Timișoara launched on Tuesday, June 10, during an event held in the Aula Magna, the game "REGEN:17” – an educational video game developed entirely by UVT students, created through an interdisciplinary approach unique in the Romanian academic environment. The initiative represents a pilot project that capitalizes on research results and student creativity to bring sustainability themes closer to the general public, in an accessible, attractive and interactive format.
"REGEN:17” is the first free video game dedicated to promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Romania. Created by involving over 35 students from all 11 faculties of UVT, the team structure replicated a professional organization, covering departments such as: development, arts, communication, music, research, management & HR.
The launch event marked the recognition of an innovative educational model in which collaboration between fields becomes the engine of learning through practice. During the launch event, there were interventions from the UVT management and the project team:
- Univ. Assoc. Dr. Mădălin Bunoiu, UVT vice-rector for research, development, innovation, sustainability, technology transfer and diaspora,
- Alexandra Petcu, innovation and technology transfer coordinator UVT and
- Adrian Podaru, UVT student, team coordinator GameDev4RDI.
The game is available for free online at: regen17.e-uvt.ro
"This project reconfirms UVT's mission, to put knowledge at the service of society. Through "REGEN:17" we transform sustainability education into a relevant and memorable experience for the new generation."."- emphasizes Prof. Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, rector of the West University of Timișoara.
The launch of "REGEN:17” confirms UVT's positioning as a pioneering space for the collaborative development of educational games, capable of translating complex information into a friendly and engaging language. We invite all interested institutions and organizations to test the game and contact us for future collaborations on similar topics.
