The entire community of the Western University of Timișoara is celebrating 80 years since its establishment in the spirit that consecrated it, one of performance and excellence, as a gradual and permanent result of a persevering effort carried out by academic staff, researchers and students, together with community partners.

The anniversary of the completion of eight decades since the establishment of UVT will create the opportunity to organize a series of events with a special profile, offered by UVT between May 23-25, 2024, a context in which the academic community of UVT resumes the course of memorable events, dedicated to the Timișoara community, under a anniversary special this year – “UVT for the community, for Timișoara!".

The first of the special events to be held during these festivities is a cultural meeting with the philosopher Gabriel Liiceanu, one of the most important Romanian philosophers and essayists, in a dialogue moderated by the teacher and writer Mircea Mihăieș, a public conference in which the author will read, in preview, fragments of his new book "Letter to Dorothea". The meeting with Gabriel Liiceanu will take place on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 18 p.m., in the Aula Magna of the West University of Timișoara (registration HERE).

The second significant milestone of the "UVT at 80 years" anniversary program will be the completion of the works to the National Council of Rectors, a representative body that brings together the rectors of Romanian universities. The CNR activities from the meeting in Timișoara will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024, in the Aula Magna UVT, during two plenary sessions (from 10 am and 12 pm), respectively on Saturday, May 25, 2024, starting from 10 am, in classroom of the Institute of Advanced Environmental Research (ICAM).

To mark in a special way the celebration of the eight decades since the establishment of UVT in a representative framework for the cultural space of the Timisoara community, the festive event of The opening ceremony of the UVT 80 festivities will be organized in the welcoming space of the "Mihai Eminescu" National Theater in Timișoara, Friday, May 24, 2024 (starting at 16 p.m.), where both the rector of UVT, Prof. Univ. Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, as well as the invited officials, and then there will be the anniversary performance supported by the Faculty of Music and Theater from UVT and the special guest, the violinist Alexandru Tomescu.

As an integral part of the UVT 80 program, on Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 9 o'clock, the event of vernissage of the two monumental works of art created and placed by their author, Silviu Orăvițzan, at the headquarters of the Institute of Advanced Environmental Research (ICAM) of UVT: The flower of life (gilt bas-relief, mixed technique, 600 cm x 660 cm) and The mechanics of the sky (mixed media on canvas, 720 cm x 400 cm).

As part of the UVT 80th anniversary events, also on Saturday, from 9.30:XNUMX a.m., in the auditorium of the Institute of Advanced Environmental Research (ICAM) of UVT, the honorary distinction of the Gold Medal of UVT will be awarded to His Highness Ioan Selejan, Metropolitan of Banat, at the proposal of the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology, for his entire work supporting Romanian theological higher education.
