CBG students, involved in a pioneering action for Romania

The students of the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, Geography within the UVT have been involved, together with WWF Romania, in a first-of-its-kind analysis for Romania, regarding the presence and state of pollinators in our country.

More precisely, the students contributed to the preparation of super databases with over 1200 species of pollinators (bees, butterflies, midges) present in our country, from which WWF Romania, based on a formula, made a selection of species that have urgent need for protection measures at the national level, from the national authorities. This scientific analysis allowed the data to be communicated to representatives of the Government and other research institutions and NGOs with a view to proposing actions for 109 priority pollinator species.

Given that the decline of pollinators is related to the way we produce our food, the way we garden and maintain green spaces, each of us can improve their condition through everyday gestures, such as choosing organic and small-producer food, local, planting bee-friendly flowers and avoiding the use of chemical pesticides (insecticides, herbicides) in your own gardens.

CBG students were coordinated by lect. university Dr. Marius Berchi.
