SPECTO 2024 – “Designing the future of the criminal justice system through the lens of technology”

The West University of Timișoara and the European Probation Confederation, in partnership with the National Probation Directorate, the National Penitentiary Administration and the Romanian Association of Criminal Sciences, announce the opening of the 2024th edition of the International Conference on multidisciplinary perspectives in the treatment of quasi- coercive of criminals - SPECTO 16 - "Designing the future criminal justice system through the lenses of technology", on May 17-2024, XNUMX, at the West University of Timișoara.  

This international conference, which has become a tradition for the Western University of Timișoara, brings together this year more than 100 experts, teachers, researchers, practitioners and students to explore the confluence between justice, technology and the treatment of criminals, which leads to a more nuanced and effective social reintegration.

The conference will be opened by Professor Marilen Gabriel PIRTEA, rector of the Western University of Timișoara, Annie DEVOS, president of the European Probation Confederation, Evelina-Denisa OUESLATI, Director General of the National Probation Directorate of Romania, the quaestor Dan HALCHIN, Director General of the Administration National Association of Penitentiaries in Romania and the president of the SPECTO conference, Professor Mihaela TOMIȚĂ from the Western University of Timișoara.

The conference program includes papers by specialists in the field of criminal justice, three round tables, four parallel sessions of scientific communications and a workshop addressed to students. The participants, gathered from countries such as Belgium, Croatia, Finland, France, Ireland, Nigeria, Norway, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, the United States of America and Hungary, will explore how the digital age is making its mark on the multidisciplinary dimensions of criminal justice , as well as European Union policy recommendations that support inter-institutional collaboration.

For the opening of the conference, the rector of the West University of Timișoara, university professor.
