Starting from 2020, the Western University of Timisoara entered a new stage of institutional development and internationalization, as part of the UNITA European alliance, together with five other European partners: Università degli Studi di Torino (Italy), Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour (France), Université Savoie Mont Blanc (France), Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain) and Universidade Beira Interior (Portugal).
The "UNITA - Universitas Montium" project is at the base of this alliance, which will also be developed through the complementary efforts of the six universities. Such a project is "Research for UNITA" (Re-UNITA), which is to be financially supported within of the "Science with and for Society" initiative, a the Horizon 2020 programme, with the amount of two million euros.
"Re-UNITA" intends to facilitate a further institutional transformation of the European university alliance UNITA, by creating a joint multidisciplinary, competitive and innovation structure, oriented towards the current challenges in the fields of renewable energies, cultural heritage and circular economy. In particular, the project aims to:
• To offer one of the most attractive environments in Europe for researchers and students;
• To create an innovative European network of common research infrastructures;
• To be an actor of vitality and socio-economic diversification for mountain regions and cross-border communities:
• To ensure the dissemination of research results and the spread of science in society.
Within the project, UVT coordinates the work package on "Involvement of citizens, civil society and the public in research and innovation". Its objectives are oriented towards the concepts of "science for citizens" and "open science", based on the statement that universities can and must become an active (f)actor of development, not only communicating and sharing their research results, but also by training the other social actors.
