After the recent signing of the financing contract through PNRR, which was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Education and those of the Western University of Timișoara, the project team started the implementation of the project "We build for education: Dormitories of the future" (financing contract no. 11679/18.07.2024). The project is part of Investment 17. within the PNRR: "Ensuring university infrastructure (dormitories, canteens, recreation spaces)" and has an implementation period between 19.07.2024 - 30.09.2025.

This project aims to build a student dormitory in Ghiroda, for 162 students of UVT. The building, with 81 rooms and an area of ​​4.948 m52.958.278,79, will comply with nZEB plus standards, with near-zero energy consumption. The total investment is 47.235.636,22 lei, of which XNUMX lei is non-refundable financing.

Each room will have integrated furniture, full utilities, own bathroom and balcony. Each room in the dormitory built through this project will have a capacity of two people and will be equipped with beds, bedside tables, desks, wardrobes, a refrigerator and shelves. The rooms will have their own bathroom equipped with a shower, WC and sink. The building will have parking spaces.

The project "Building for education: Student dormitories of the future" aims to achieve three specific objectives:

• The construction of a new accommodation space within the Western University of Timișoara that will comply with the objective regarding the primary energy requirement at least 20% lower than the requirement for nZEB plus buildings, contributing to increasing the quality of life of future generations.
• The creation of a modern space and a high-performance learning environment within the Western University of Timișoara, to combat the limited access to education of students, especially those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.
• The construction of 162 accommodation places in the campus of the University of West in Timișoara, of which 65 accommodation places (40%) for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, to ensure the social and inclusive dimension of higher education.

Another project started by UVT is  "Modernization and energy efficiency of the student dormitories of the Western University of Timișoara: C3, C15, C17" (financing contract no. 11659/18.07.2024). The project is part of Investment 17. within the PNRR: "Ensuring university infrastructure (dormitories, canteens, recreation spaces)" and has an implementation period between 19.07.2024 - 30.09.2025.

The project includes thermal insulation, replacement of exterior carpentry, modernization of heating and lighting systems and installation of photovoltaic equipment. These interventions will improve accommodation conditions, especially for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and reduce the operational costs of the university. The value of the investment is 26.326.900,88 lei, of which 23.623.880,03 lei non-refundable financing and 2.703.020,85 lei the UVT contribution.

Through the project "Modernization and energy efficiency of the student dormitories of the Western University of Timișoara: C3, C15, C17" the achievement of three specific objectives is aimed at:

• Modernization of the existing infrastructure of the Western University of Timișoara, accommodation, by reducing energy consumption for heating by at least 50% and increasing primary energy savings by 30% in 3 dormitories, contributing to increasing the quality of life of future generations;
• The creation of modern spaces and high-performance learning environments in the dormitories of the University of the West in Timișoara, to combat the limited access to education of students, especially those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds;
• The modernization of 1200 accommodation places in the campus of the University of West in Timișoara, of which 480 accommodation places (40%) for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, in 3 student dormitories, to ensure the social and inclusive dimension of higher education.
