Today, at the headquarters of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, the collaboration agreement between the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) and the West University of Timișoara was announced and signed, establishing the terms of a long-term partnership devoted to the consolidation of Romanian sport. The agreement provides for involvement in joint projects, useful for the transmission of common messages, in which COSR will be alongside UVT, a strong educational brand with a good image at the national level. COSR will participate in the identification of athletes and sports personalities who will receive invitations to participate in the annual international competition "UVT Liberty Marathon", as symbolic characters of the sports movement in Romania. For its part, the Western University of Timișoara will ensure free access of the persons proposed by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee to the postgraduate courses organized by the UVT in various fields (such as those on digitization of teaching-evaluation activities or social assistance). Also, through the collaboration agreement, a format was established for the designation of the Olympic champions who will be invited to sign the "UVT Liberty Marathon" medal at each of the future editions of the event.
The public event announcing and signing the agreement was attended by Mihai Covaliu, COSR president, COSR general secretary George Boroi and Anișoara Cușmir, president of the Romanian Athletics Federation and Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, rector of UVT, along with the executive management of the annual international competition. UVT Liberty Marathon".
The collaboration between COSR and UVT has materialized in recent years through several participations in joint events, which strengthened the perspective of a long-term project. Thus, in the opening of the partnership established today through the collaboration agreement between the two parties, it was announced the appointment of Mr. Mihai Covaliu, president of COSR, to sign the UVT Liberty Marathon medal, offered as a competitive symbol to the more than 2500 participants who will be present at the edition from this year's event.
The president of COSR, Mihai Covaliu: " Sport is more than a competition. The values cultivated by the Olympic Movement are not merely theoretical. One of its fundamental goals is precisely the reconstruction of contemporary society, unity in all our diversity. The honor, dignity of athletes, team spirit and fair play, which they show in competitions, make them true role models. Contemporary Romanian society needs models. The Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee is an active factor in society through everything it promotes and supports. Education through sports, the development of new generations with the help of Olympic principles and values are the common goals of the Olympic Movement and the academic environment in Romania. Through and with the help of the Western University of Timișoara, our message reaches the students and young people who want to participate in our mission. We appreciate the interest in Olympic sport in Romania and we firmly believe that Romanian sport has a future and will remain a link for Romanian society. Sport unites and educates people in the purest spirit of fair play! "
UVT rector, Marilen Gabriel Pirtea: "The Western University of Timișoara (UVT), the most important comprehensive university in the west of the country, promotes excellence, both through science and research programs, as well as through those in the fields of arts and sports. At UVT, for all faculties and undergraduate programs, we have set a standard whereby each student follows the discipline of Physical Education for 4 semesters, in the first 2 years of studies, for complete and harmonious development. On the other hand, we also got involved beyond the limits of our university community and created an event dedicated to the whole city and even to many sports lovers from home and abroad, the UVT Liberty Marathon, reaching its fifth edition this year, an event increasingly loved and popular competitive. From the whole academic communities of UVT, thank Mr. Mihai Covaliu, a significant personality of Romanian sport, for being this year the signatory of the UVT Liberty Marathon medal, an important gesture for the thousands of participants in the marathon in October 2022, who will enjoy, once in addition, and for the originality of the special signature on the medals they will receive. Together with COSR, we will transmit at the national level the idea of freedom and harmony through sport, because the UVT Liberty Marathon is an experience built with energy, effort and a lot of motivation, in a community where everyone makes their mark in transmitting the idea of freedom more far away.
