During October 20-26, Ruxandra Trandafoiu, professor of politics, communication and diaspora at Edge Hill University, Great Britain, visited the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies at the Faculty of Letters, History, Philosophy and Theology of the West University in Timișoara. As part of this mobility, Ruxandra Trandafoiu held two lectures and a seminar for teachers, researchers and students, and had several meetings with members of the center and with other colleagues from our institution, both working and informal (https:// genderstudies.uvt.ro/).
The public lecture, entitled "We hire women to clean: Opportunities and risks for women from the digital diaspora in Great Britain" (October 21), brought to the attention of the UVT community the results of a study carried out by Ruxandra Trandafoiu together with Prof. Ekaterina Balabanova (University of Liverpool) about the ways in which Romanian and Bulgarian migrant groups in the UK use the digital platform Facebook as part of their daily lives in the diaspora. The analysis and interpretation of the data focused on the gender perspective, highlighting, on the one hand, certain opportunities offered to migrants by digital platforms, and, on the other, the risks of intensifying a situation of vulnerability, through misogynistic reactions, isolation and exploitation of migrant women. The presentation was followed by a dialogue about the realities of the Romanian diaspora post-Brexit, about the new issue related to the emergence of digital platforms and about the importance of expanding and making visible the research about women in migration studies. The lecture for students, "Enabling the migrant body" (October 25), familiarized them with the concepts of positioning and performed identity, and the examples from the Romanian diaspora in Great Britain aroused the interest of the participants, resulting in discussions and (self-)reflections about migrant status and the relationship between Romanians in the country and those who left.
The seminar and meetings at the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies addressed the writing of project proposals, with an emphasis on the research impact section on society, which led to interesting exchanges of views and experiences, as well as the identification of opportunities for future collaboration . Ruxandra Trandafoiu's visit was made possible by a mobility project for experienced researchers from the diaspora, financed by UEFISCDI and coordinated by Conf. univ. Dr. Irina Diana Mădroane, Executive Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies. The events enjoyed the participation and support of colleagues from the management of FLIFT and UVT, represented by Prof. univ. skillful Dr. Dana Percec, Dean of FLIFT, Univ. Dr. Ana-Maria Pop, FLIFT Vice-Dean, and Univ. Assoc. Dr. Daniel Lucheș, Director of the Directorate for the Management of Research-Innovation-Development Activities.
