From satellite data to virtual reality: UVT invests in the infrastructure of the professions of the future

The West University of Timișoara (UVT) continues the development of educational and research infrastructures dedicated to emerging technologies, through investments made within the project "Digital Community for Emerging Generations", financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Component C15: Education, Investment 16 - "Digitizing universities and preparing them for the digital professions of the future".

One of the most important investments made within the project is the establishment of the Satellite Data Processing Laboratory within the Faculty of Informatics, a space dedicated to advanced research and analysis in the field of geospatial technologies and satellite imagery.

The laboratory benefits from digital infrastructures and specialized software used at international standards, including the Gamma license for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data processing, as well as access to global reference databases, such as Planet, Capella Space and WorldView. The new technologies allow the development of research projects and applied analysis in areas such as environmental monitoring, smart urban development, precision agriculture, security and advanced geospatial analysis.

In parallel, the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences developed an E-learning and Didactic Technology Laboratory, designed as an interdisciplinary space dedicated to new methods of teaching, learning and digital research.

The laboratory integrates immersive technologies and innovative equipment used in interactive educational activities: educational robots, high-performance drones, digital platforms and VR technologies designed to simulate and experiment with new pedagogical scenarios. The purchased equipment includes a humanoid educational robot, DJI MINI 3 PRO, DJI MAVIC 3 PRO FLY and DJI AIR 4K FLY drones, as well as 20 pairs of VR glasses designed for immersive educational experiences.

At the same time, the laboratory infrastructure includes 20 MAXQDA Analytics Pro licenses, used for data analysis and research, supporting the development of digital skills and interdisciplinary research.

These investments are part of the "Digital Community for Emerging Generations" project, through which UVT aims to modernize the university's digital infrastructure and develop the skills necessary for the professions of the future. The total eligible value of the project is 30.211.210,32 lei.

Through these developments, UVT consolidates its role as an innovation-oriented university, capable of providing students and researchers with access to digital infrastructures comparable to those existing in major European university centers.
