"At UVT, Culture is the Capital!": new lectures with international personalities

As we are used to, at the Western University of Timișoara the presence of personalities from the most varied fields is a constant. This week, as part of the series of events "At UVT, Culture is the capital!", university professors are invited to the academic community. Dr. Noemi Marin and diplomat Marius-Gabriel Lazurca.

Prof. Dr. Noemi Marin, teaching staff of the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies (Florida Atlantic University) acted as director of this institution, was director of the Peace Studies Program, being an associate professor at the Center for Women, Gender and Sexualities Studies, Center for Body, Mind, and Culture, and at Peace Justice and Human Rights University.

An internationally prolific researcher, the guest speaker generally focuses on communist and post-communist discourse and societies in transition. She is the author and (co)editor of books and publications such as "Rhetorics of 1989" (2015), "After the Fall: Rhetoric in the Aftermath of Dissent in Post-Communist Times" (2007), "Advances in the History of Rhetoric" (2009) et al.

He has participated in more than 160 competitive conferences and published more than 50 academic articles in specialized, peer-reviewed journals from the United States, France, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, Holland. Since 2005, Dr. Marin is the editor of International Journal of Literacy and Technology (literacyandtechnology.org). Throughout his career, he has been awarded a number of prestigious awards: Presidential Leadership Award (2010), Researcher/Creative Scholar of the Year Award (2009), School of Communication and Multimedia Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Award Studies, Florida Atlantic University (2020). Dr. Marin is currently working on a book manuscript on theoretical approaches to authoritarian discourse and public engagement.

At UVT, on Wednesday, April 21, he will give the lecture "Rhetoric and identity: a foray into Romanian-American academic life", moderated by prof. Dr. Cristina Chevereșan.

The second guest of this week, in the series "At UVT, Culture is the capital!", is Mr. Marius-Gabriel Lazurca, Ambassador of Romania in Mexico.

Born in Timișoara, he is a UVT Alumnus, completing his studies at the Faculty of Letters of our university.  

In 1993 he went to Paris, where he began a marked course of bachelor's, master's and doctorate at the Sorbonne University. In the years that followed, he published two books, worked as a teacher at the faculty that trained him and finally decided to go into the field of administration.

He became a diplomat in 2006, after five years spent in Arad, in the local public administration, as ambassador to the Vatican, then as head of the Romanian Missions in Chisinau (2010-2016) and Budapest (2016-2020).

He is currently the Ambassador of Romania in Mexico, and in this capacity he will speak to the UVT community about "The most beautiful job". The online conference will take place on Friday, April 23, and will be moderated by prof. Dr. Vasile Popovici.
