The Western University of Timișoara, through the Faculty of Arts and Design, represented by Prof. Univ.Dr. Skilled. Camil Mihăescu – FAD Dean, in partnership with Dr. Anna Safronova (Kyiv, Ukraine) – photographer artist, invites you to participate Thursday, June 30, starting at 14 p.m., at the MANSARDA Gallery of the Faculty of Arts and Design Timișoara, 4 Oituz street, at the opening of the photography exhibition "INTERFOTO" - 2022 edition - UKRAINE, which this time has a special character, due to the socio-political context in Ukraine and is dedicated to young Ukrainian photographic artists.
Dr. Anna Safronova is pursuing her postdoctoral studies at the University of West Timișoara and describes this year's INTERFOTO exhibition in the lines below.
"Ukrainian photography, like its culture, is developing today to define the idea of an independent country with its own history, culture, way of thinking and perception of beauty. Historically, the Ukrainian school of photography gained its recognition thanks to the Kharkiv School of Photography, which aimed primarily to reveal the social problems associated with living in the Soviet and post-Soviet era.
It should be noted that in Ukraine, and especially in Kyiv, there is a large concentration of photographic artists. Kiev can really be called a photographic city, rich in photo studios, photography schools, photography circles and art galleries. Consequently, the number of photographers with their own projects, both commercial and artistic, is increasing every year. Over the past year, Kyiv has frequently hosted photography festivals, exhibitions and fairs, as well as book festivals of Ukrainian photographic artists.
Although the INTERFOTO 2022 UKRAINE exhibition was organized in a very short period of time, it instead includes a collection of works by completely different photographers with whom I had the pleasure of communicating and working. All of these people have expressed their willingness to commit to the project. Unfortunately, many of them had to leave the country urgently, and many works were lost or left in their homeland, without the possibility of their further promotion. Some of my close friends, for one reason or another could not attend the exhibition but all of them were happy even because they were given the opportunity to attend. The first reason for such an attitude is that they are all in love with photography as their life's work, not just as an ordinary hobby or profession. The presented works are created by artists of different ages, experience and professional skills, as well as the level of recognition, although they are all interesting and original in their own way.
I hope that this project will help to familiarize visitors to the exhibition with the phenomenon of photography in Ukraine and with the concrete works of Ukrainian photographic artists. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the organizers of the INTERFOTO exhibition and the Western University of Timișoara, thanks to whom this event takes place, but also to all the people who helped me directly", transmits Dr. Anna Safronova.
The exhibition can be visited in MANSARDA Gallery of the Faculty of Arts and Design Timișoara, Oituz street no. 4, between June 30 and July 7, 2022, or online at www.arte-fact.uvt.ro.
