West University of Timisoara (UVT) inaugurated on Monday, November 10, the new "Journalism Laboratory", an ultra-modern educational and media production space, unique in the western part of the country. The project brings to UVT a television and podcast studio fully equipped to professional standards, dedicated to training the new generation of journalists, communicators and content creators.
The Journalism Laboratory was implemented within the projects "Quality Higher Education: Endowment, modernization and rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the West University of Timișoara" (SMIS code 327248) and "Endowment of the infrastructure of the West University of Timișoara in accordance with the needs of the labor market" (SMIS code 327277), co-financed by the European Union, through ADR Vest as the Managing Authority for the West Regional Program 2021-2027.
UVT thus becomes the first university center in western Romania to have a fully integrated TV and digital production platform, comparable to the professional equipment of national studios.
Designed to the highest technical standards, the "Journalism Laboratory" at UVT brings to the Timișoara university center an innovative vision of preparing students in multimedia specializations, being the only fully equipped university media production space in the west of the country, similar to the most advanced television facilities at the national level. Here is a complex of TV and digital production equipment that facilitates the design and implementation of broadcast projects and podcasts, integrating the creation of new multimedia formats for the online environment.
The inauguration event was attended by representatives of the UVT management, Prof. Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, vice-rectors and coordinators of the research centers, the dean Faculty of Governance and Communication Sciences, lecturer.univ.dr. Alexandru Jădăneanț, Mrs. Georgiana Rădac, Director of the General Directorate of the PR Management Authority, on behalf of the management of the ADR West, guests from the press and communication specialists, students and researchers.
The laboratory space is organized into two main areas: Studio 1 – TV and Talk-show, a professional television set, with modern design, dynamic lighting and modular decor; Studio 2 – Multimedia & Podcast, a vibrant and adaptable space for dynamic filming and visual podcasts. Both studios are operated through a control center with state-of-the-art equipment, guaranteeing a complete production experience.
The "Journalism Laboratory" plays a central role in the training of students in journalism, communication and public relations. Through direct experience with professionals in the field, using media production equipment and processes, students develop their skills in multimedia journalism, digital storytelling, TV production, editorial management and broadcast direction.
The new laboratory project offers an experience of openness to the community and partnerships, being conceived as an innovative communication hub, a space open to the academic community, the cultural environment and media partners. Here, workshops, masterclasses and educational activities will be organized, in collaboration with journalists and media institutions, strengthening the connection between the academic and professional environments.
By inaugurating the "Journalism Laboratory", the West University of Timișoara reaffirms its role as a regional leader in media and digital education, opening a new chapter in the training of professionals who will shape Romania's public space.
