Faculty of Arts and Design within West University of Timisoara, through the Regional Center for Research and Expertise in Restoration and Conservation (CR-CERC), announces the opening of the major interdisciplinary event: 1st International Symposium "Fusion: Color, Science and Art Conservation", accompanied by the thematic exhibition "Fusion: Color, Science, Art".
The event transforms the Mansarda Gallery into a space for dynamic dialogue between artists, researchers, restorers and scientists, exploring the intersection between aesthetics, technology and heritage conservation.
Event Schedule:
- Exhibition Opening: May 5, 2026, 15:00 PM (Mansarda Gallery).
- Visiting period: May 5 – 22, 2026.
- International Symposium: May 8, 2026 (Mansarda Gallery).
Innovation and Sustainability in Dialogue
The symposium brings together renowned experts from prestigious international institutions, such as the University of Rome Tor Vergata, YOCOCU Italy, and the Escuela Superior de Arte del Principado de Asturias, along with centers of excellence from Romania. The topics addressed target the future of conservation: from the use of ecological and sustainable pigments, to innovative treatments and the use of liquid crystals or fluorescent materials in art.
An Exhibition of Visual Experiment
The exhibition "Fusion: Color, Science, Art" is the result of a close collaboration between students of the Faculty of Arts and Design and researchers from the "Coriolan Drăgulescu" Institute of Chemistry of the Romanian Academy and the Institute for Advanced Environmental Research.
The public will have the opportunity to discover:
- Innovative Materials: The use of gels, resins and natural/synthetic pigments in contemporary creation.
- Applied Scientific Research: How molecular structure dictates color and how chemistry can help with wastewater treatment or color stability under extreme conditions.
- Artistic Diversity: Video installations, cyanotype, graphic design, painting and multimedia interventions, complemented by the presence of guest artist Bianca-Ioana Balaban.
"Color is not just a visual phenomenon, but a complex physico-chemical one. Through this event, we investigate color as matter and process, from natural sources to advanced materials that can adsorb or degrade pollutants, highlighting the active role of research in protecting the environment and cultural heritage."", declares Dr. Manuela Crișan, on behalf of the organizing team.
About the organizers:
The event is curated by asst. univ. dr. Luisa Palade and organized by a multidisciplinary team coordinated by assoc. univ. dr. Silvia Trion, drd. Namaah Tămășanu, CS II dr. Manuela Crișan and CS dr.
