Between April 25-27, 2025, the final stage of the "Central and Eastern European Moot Competition”, prestigious student scientific competition under European Union law, in its 30th edition, organized by Juris Angliae Scientia – British Law Centre, in cooperation with the Court of Justice of the European Union, with the support of other institutions of the European Union, the Center for European Legal Studies at Cambridge University and Clifford Chance.
18 teams qualified for the final stage of the competition, including the Faculty of Law from the West University of Timisoara (UVT). Access to this stage was based on written memoranda prepared by the participants.
The competition consisted of a simulation of proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union, in which the participating teams presented the arguments of the parties in a case concerning the preliminary reference procedure, aspects related to the legal mechanism of the European arrest warrant, the principle of mutual trust between the Member States of the European Union and the cooperation and trade treaties concluded by the European Union with third countries.
The team of the Faculty of Law of Timișoara, consisting of Iarina Modol (third-year student), Dara Nestorovici, Anamaria Petcu and Cătălina Pînzaru (fourth-year students), qualified for the semi-final round of the competition and achieved 5th place in the overall ranking, continuing the series of performances of the teams that represented the faculty in previous editions.
The training of the team from the Faculty of Law in Timișoara was coordinated by Ms. Prof. Dr. Raluca Bercea, Ms. Vice-Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sorina Doroga and Ms. Dr. Bianca Șerb, former participant and winner of an individual pleading award at this competition.
