On Tuesday, December 17, at the Ministry of Education, Minister Ligia Deca signed, together with the general administrative director of UVT, Mr. Laurențiu Georgescu, the two financing contracts related to the projects of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) aimed at the modernization and development of the university infrastructure from UVT.
In the case of the first project, "Modernization and energy efficiency of student dormitories and gyms of the Western University of Timișoara", the modernization of three student dormitories (the dorm on Renașterii str., the Faculty of Law dorm and the dorm on Camelia str.) and two sports halls (Pârvan 4 and Popa Șapcă 5) of the West University of Timișoara, ensuring - setting up a future quality infrastructure, important for students' participation in a modern and inclusive educational process. The total investment, in the case of this project, is 48.664.664,19 lei, of which 43.527.364,21 lei is the total value eligible for PNRR (including VAT). This project was entered in the call for projects: PNRR/2024/C15/MEDU/I17/ "Modernization of university infrastructure for a fair academic space" - call II, Pillar VI. Policies for the new generation, Component C15: Education, Reform R6. Updating the legislative framework to ensure ecological standards of design, construction and equipment in the pre-university education system, Investment 17. Ensuring the university infrastructure (dormitories, canteens, recreation spaces).
In the case of the second project, "The future of students: Smart and sustainable dormitories", it is planned to increase the number of accommodation places by building a university infrastructure - a modern student dormitory designed to offer 162 accommodation places for the students of the Western University of Timișoara, located in the peri-urban area of Timișoara (Ghiroda locality). The project attaches great importance to the social and inclusive dimension, ensured by the at least 65 accommodation places in this future student dormitory (40% of the total of 162 accommodation places) intended for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The value of the investment is 52.958.278,78 lei, of which 47.235.636,22 lei is eligible financing (including VAT). This project was entered in the call for projects PNRR/2024/C15/MEDU/I17/ "Construction of university infrastructure for the student campuses of the future" - call II, Pillar VI.
