The International Conference "The Sciences of Ethnomusicology and Ethnochoreology and the Practice of Folklore in the Balkans" – sixth edition – an academic landmark in the cultural space of Southeastern Europe

The Banat Culture Association, through the high-level cultural and scientific partnership with the Union of Serbs in Romania, organizes on December 8 and 9, 2025 the 6th edition of International Conference "The Science of Ethnomusicology and Ethnochoreology and the Practice of Folklore in the Balkans". The event brings together prestigious specialists in the fields of ethnomusicology, ethnochoreology, Byzantinology, ethnology and anthropology.

Prof. Dr. habil. Lucian Emil Roșca, head of folklore disciplines at the Faculty of Music and Theatre at the West University of Timisoara (UVT), president and founder of Association for Banat Culture, stressed the importance of the moment: "We mark and celebrate five years since the establishment of the Association, five years since the organization of the first edition of the conference, and five years since the founding of the Journal of Research and Studies.”

This year's edition brings together twenty-two scientific papers, the results of recent research that will be presented for the first time. The studies address relevant themes from the Balkan cultural heritage, including Romania's, and contribute to the knowledge, recovery and highlighting of traditional values.

The conference benefits from the expertise of an elite scientific committee, chaired by academician Prof. Dr. Octavian Lazăr Cosma, alongside some of the most important musicologists in Romania and the Balkan academic space.

The event also benefits from important partners: the Consulate General of Serbia in Timișoara, Serbian Culture Research Center - Union of Serbs in Romania, West University of Timișoara and the Faculty of Music and Theater, Akademsko Društvo za Negovanje Muzike "Gusle" Kikinda, Serbia Musicological Society of The Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the "Nicolae Ursu" Ethno-Musicological Research Center.

The 2025 edition confirms the prestige of the conference, which has become an international landmark in the research of traditional musics and games. Participants will enjoy two solid days, with presentations, debates and academic exchanges that will create new cultural and scientific bridges in the Balkan region.
