The Banking Law Conference, organized by the National Bank of Romania in partnership with UVT, is held under the title "Artificial Intelligence in Banking: the Role of Law"

The thirteenth edition of the Timișoara Banking Law Conference, with the theme "Artificial Intelligence in Banking: the Role of Law", will take place on March 28, 2025, at the National Bank of Romania - Timișoara Branch, and will be broadcast live on the www.juridice.ro platform.

The conference is part of the prestigious cycle "Legal Colloquia of the National Bank of Romania", now in its thirtieth anniversary edition, being organized by the Faculty of Law of the West University of Timișoara in collaboration with the National Bank of Romania - Legal Department.

Professors from law schools, as well as renowned specialists working in the National Bank of Romania, credit institutions and law firms, are invited to participate in the event as speakers.

The conference aims to discuss the influence of artificial intelligence on the banking system and banking activity. If recent editions of the conference have addressed issues such as the inclusion of fintech tools in banks' business processes, rethinking the technological infrastructure used in banking, its interconnection with digital platforms and applications, or the automation of processes in the financial and banking industry, this edition of the debates is reserved for the analysis of the role that law has - or could have - in the integration of artificial intelligence in this field. The new stage of development of the financial and banking sector goes beyond, on the one hand, the adaptation of traditional banking activity to the online environment and, on the other hand, the use of automated platforms and processes. Currently, sectoral development is based on the technological advance ensured by artificial intelligence, seen as a disruptive phenomenon, capable of radically transforming risk management and customer relations, creating new positive and negative externalities at the market level. The popularity of generative artificial intelligence and the entry into force this year of relevant provisions of EU Regulation No. 2024/1698 on artificial intelligence (AI Act) have accelerated debates on the impact and autonomy of these tools in the European Union. A critical assessment of the legal uncertainties that accompany the evolution of artificial intelligence mechanisms from problem-solving to decision-making brings together theorists and practitioners of the field, in an attempt to make an accurate radiograph and a realistic prognosis.

The event will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Timișoara Regional Branch of the National Bank of Romania (Bd. Ion C. Brătianu no. 1), between 9 am and 16 pm, and will feature interventions and presentations by: Alexandru Păunescu (Director of the NBR Legal Department), Lucian Bercea (Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Târgu Mureș), Lucian Bondoc (Managing Partner, Bondoc și Asociații), Mihai Rotaru (Director of the Legal Department of Banca Transilvania), Daniel Nicolaescu (Director of the Legal and Corporate Governance Department of Raiffeisen Bank), Alina Radu (partner lawyer Nestor Nestor Diculescu Kingston Petersen), Gabriela Anton (partner lawyer, Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații), Radu Rizoiu (Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest), Cristina Reichmann (partner lawyer, CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang), Dragoș Mihail Mănescu (Vice-Dean, Faculty of Law, Academy of Economic Studies), Adelina Elena Bădescu (Deputy Director, Legal Department, Salt Bank), Ioan Șumandea-Simionescu (Researcher, Faculty of Law, "Babeș-Bolyai" University, Cluj-Napoca, Director of the Sustainable Corporate Governance and Financial Markets Department, Banca Transilvania),

This event is held under the aegis of the European Association of Banking and Financial Law (AEDBF) and is financially supported, along with the organizers, by Banca Comercială Română. The media partner of the conference is juridice.ro.
