As a continuation of the approach of familiarizing young people with Romanian cultural projects of great importance on the European stage, the University of West Timișoara organized an "Andrei Ujică Retrospective", a program dedicated to the cinematography of the great director.
The "Andrei Ujică Retrospective" represented a symbolic moment in the context of TM 2023, celebrating the outstanding contribution of an artist from Timisoara of European scope.
Andrei Ujică, Romanian writer and director who emigrated to Germany in 1981, had a career of several years as a teacher at the Academy of Theater and Film in Karlsruhe. He is the director from Timisoara with the most significant international career, having awarded films and screened at prestigious festivals around the world, being the subject of analysis for some of the most notable film critics.
The retrospective was not just a look into the past, but offered the opportunity for reflection, with the participation of film critics from France and Romania: Antoine de Baecque, Alice Leroy and Andrei Gorzo.
During this event, the "History in motion" project was presented. Three films by Andrei Ujică", screenings introduced by Andrei Gorzo and followed by discussions with the audience in the presence of the director. The films scheduled were:

At the same time, the UVT held the conference "Cineastul de la endum mundi", during which Andrei Gorzo made the introduction of the dialogue held by the historian Antoine de Baecque with Andrei Ujică. The conference was moderated by Alice Leroy of "Cahiers du Cinéma".
Andrei Gorzo, known for his film reviews and analyzes in the magazine 24-FUN and the newspaper Dilema veche, as well as for his active involvement in cultural events, brought a valuable perspective to the introduction of the event, complementing the expertise of the invited critics.
Antoine de Baecque, graduate of the École normale supérieure de Saint-Cloud, specialist in XNUMXth-century cultural history, contributed a detailed view, complementing the discussions with his expertise in film history and aesthetics.
Alice Leroy, researcher in visual studies and lecturer in film history and aesthetics, moderated the event, ensuring a fluent discussion lead and highlighting the contributions of invited experts.
The event was part of the national cultural program "Timișoara - European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is financed by the program Inside Timișoara 2023, run by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara, with amounts allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture and co-financed by the Timiș County Council, through the TimCultura 2023 program.
