Timișoara, through the voice of the academic community Faculty of Arts and Design within West University of Timisoara (UVT), joins the global celebration dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Constantin Brâncuși. For our institution, this jubilee does not represent just a chronological milestone, but an opportunity to reaffirm the deep connection that contemporary art maintains with the philosophy and rigor of the master from Hobița, the one who taught the world to look not only at the form, but at the essence of things.
Our concern for the Brancusi legacy is translated, throughout this year, through a series of actions intended to provoke dialogue and inspire new generations of creators. The series of these events begins under the sign of theoretical debate and workshop experience.
Thus, on March 4, 2026, the Mansarda Gallery will host a roundtable that will bring together the teaching staff of the Sculpture specialization. This dialogue between educators and active artists aims to explore how "Brâncuși's lesson" remains a living foundation in current art education.
Spring will bring to the public's attention a unique visual perspective, in the UVT ArtCenter space (Plant Gallery), where the photography exhibition will be opened "Brâncuși – subjective.objective", an exercise in observation that seeks to capture the tension between the mathematical rigor of the work and the subjective emotion it generates. In May, the energy of young artists will be highlighted in the Vertical Gallery, where students of the faculty will exhibit works dedicated to the master. This initiative benefits from the support of the Lions Club Iris Timișoara, which will offer prizes to the most inspired visions, thus marking the solidarity of the local community around heritage values.
The event that represents the culmination of this year of tribute will take place on October 27 at the Faculty of Arts and Design UVT, where we will have the honor of welcoming as a special guest Mrs. Doina Lemny, Doctor Honoris Causa of our university and an internationally authoritative voice in Brâncușian exegesis. The event will be conceived as an evening of cultural synthesis, in which music, performance and literature will intertwine in a tribute In Memoriam Constantin Brancusi.
