An artistic project with social and therapeutic perspectives was recently carried out by a group of volunteer students from the Faculty of Arts and Design of the West University of Timișoara (FAD – UVT), coordinated by Oana Maria Popescu, PhD research assistant and coordinator of volunteer activities within the faculty.
The project was carried out with the support of Prof. Dr. Irina Macsinga, UVT vice-rector responsible for educational innovation, academic career and student relations, and Prof. Dr. Diana Andreescu, Dean of FAD – UVT, in accordance with the strategic directions of the institution regarding the social responsibility of art and the active contribution of visual education in community life.
The artistic intervention took place in four rooms within the Pediatric Psychiatry Clinical Section of the Child Neuropsychiatry Clinic in Timișoara (Corbului Street no. 9), in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Laura Alexandra Nussbaum, director of the medical institution, and Dr. Ghizela Kanalas, primary physician in pediatric psychiatry.
The main goal of the project was the aesthetic and affective transformation of a medical space for children, achieved through the creation of comforting murals. The aim was to humanize the clinical space and reduce the perception of chromatic rigidity by introducing visual elements that stimulate empathy, creativity and emotional well-being of young patients.
The project reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Arts and Design of UVT to the social responsibility of contemporary art, promoting a dynamic relationship between artistic creation, visual education and active involvement in community life. The participation of student volunteers was exemplary, contributing not only with their artistic skills, but also with empathetic openness, a spirit of collaboration and authentic civic engagement.
The team of students involved in creating the murals includes: Alexandra Andreescu, Carmen Bucăluță, Ramona Hubert, Georgia Ielciu, Raul Niță, Evelin Baumann, Mihaela Grițan, Maria Negrilă, Mona Chiran, Radu Butăriță and Sebastian Pentea. They actively contributed to the conception, execution and adaptation of the artistic works to the specifics of the medical space and the emotional needs of the direct beneficiaries.
